Gamaguchi Arrivals…What are “GAMAGUCHI”?

“Gama” means TOAD or FROG in English, and “guchi”, or “kuchi” means MOUTH.

Therefore, we call a “frame” purse, or a purse with a metal clasp, a handbag (with clasp), a pouch (with clasp), or a coin purse (with clasp)…phew…

ALL Gamaguchi!!

There’s also the traditional belief that money spent will “come back” to you, since another word for frog is “kaeru” with the meaning “to return”, or “come back”.
