-About-

This piece features the work of Kyoto town painter Fuyuki (Fukaya Fuyuki), expressed through Pagong’s Kyoto Yuzen dyeing.

“Ikemigusa,” another name for the lotus, is depicted in a bold composition. Introduced to Japan with Buddhism during the Asuka period, the lotus symbolizes purity for its ability to bloom beautifully from muddy waters, as well as prosperity through its abundant growth.

A frog peeks from behind the lotus, representing good fortune. In Japanese, kaeru (frog) is associated with meanings like “return,” “change,” and “safe return,” making it a familiar auspicious symbol tied to wealth, renewal, and protection.

Beside the lotus, a dragonfly appears—an insect long cherished in Japan and associated with vitality and seasonal beauty. Together, these elements create a serene yet fantastical waterside scene inspired by traditional ink painting.
