Cascading Blossoms

The Story of the Cascading Blossoms Pattern

This pattern dates back to the Shōwa era and captures the graceful, flowing beauty of weeping cherry blossoms. The branches are arranged in a vertical, stripe-like composition, while the blossoms are stylized, creating a design that feels both elegant and modern.

Up until the Manyo period, the word “flower” commonly referred to plum blossoms. However, during the Heian period, cherry blossoms became especially cherished by the nobility, and the term “flower” gradually came to signify cherry blossoms. From that time to the present day, they have continued to captivate the hearts of people.

In ancient belief, divine spirits were thought to dwell in trees with gently drooping branches. For this reason, weeping cherry trees were sometimes regarded as sacred, and in certain regions, they were considered unsuitable for ordinary homes, instead being planted within temple grounds.
