The “seigaha” or standing wave, is a pattern which represents surges of good fortune, power and resilience. When combined with exquisite seasonal flowers such as the peony, chrysanthemum and wisteria, it takes on an even deeper meaning.
Kiku, or chrysanthemums, were introduced to Japan from China in the Nara-era (710-794) and when depicted with the peony and wisteria, traditionally symbolize the wish for a long, healthy life filled with everlasting joy and happiness.
